One day, while wearing my infant son in a sling, I dropped something on the ground and squatted to pick it up… and couldn’t stand back up. While I had been doing lots of yoga and cardio, I was caring for two children two and under, short on sleep, and very weak. I knew I needed to make some changes. Some googling brought me to the squat, the bench press, and the deadlift. Years later, I now hold a state record and am doing more than I ever believed myself capable of.
The power of fitness to change more than just our bodies is astounding! Getting stronger and healthier didn’t just transform my day-to-day lived experience, but also my mental toughness, emotional resilience, relationship with my body, and belief in myself to do hard things. It’s these deeper, less tangible benefits that drove me to become a trainer. The capacity of fitness to grow us as human beings and make us better at whatever it is we do and love is unparalleled! I love how performing a squat can transfer a physical accomplishment - the ability to overcome mental hurdles - from Body to Soul.
